Spring Equinox is a time of great fertility, new growth and balance.
This year, the Vernal or Spring Equinox occurs on March 20. This special
day is also known as Lady Day, Eostre, Ostara and The First Day of Spring.
Vernal Equinox marks the start of the spring season. It is the time when day and night are the same length.
This equality signifies our passage from darkness and cold to warmth and light. It is a time of balance, new beginnings,
action and fertility.
Ostara and Eostre
The ancient goddess, Eostre, was a Saxon deity who symbolized the passage of time as well as new life and fertility.
Eostre was the key symbol of the Vernal Equinox (which was also known as Ostara.) The goddess Eostre was saved
by a bird whose wings had become frozen during the winter. The winter cold had turned the bird into a magical hare, who
could also lay eggs!
The main symbols for Easter today originate from Eostre's story: the egg, for new life or beginnings, and the
rabbit/hare, for fertility.
This is an excellent time of the year to encourage fertility of your mind as well as your body. It is the time
to cultivate new ideas, plant seeds for your personal, spiritual, family and business success this coming year!
